Everyone
thinks they can sing Soul, and let’s be honest,
nearly everyone has. Few are as qualified, in every
sense, as Dougie James.
Dougie started singing at the age of 14, by 19 he was
supporting Stevie Wonder in the Georgian Club in Salford
and The Moody Blues in Sheffield. Success continued
for Dougie, he joined Michael Jackson and the Jackson
Five on the Peacock Tour in 1979 with his band ‘The
Soul Train’ and in the 1980’s he worked
with Ben E King, Frank Sinatra, Edwin Starr and Roy
Orbson to name but a few. By this time Dougie was one
of the most booked acts in the UK, singing on up to
seven gigs a night.
Four decades of performances which always included Emotion
Filled ballads and Timless soul classics has made him
Manchester’s very own ‘Master Of Soul’.
Most recently he supported James Brown at Manchester’s
Bridgewater Hall. His band ‘The Soul Train’
has developed some well known stars from the North West,
they include the late ‘Paul Young’ from
Mike and The Mechanics / Sad Café. Other band
members include players from Dire Straits, 10cc and
‘Lisa Stansfield’
Still going and not stopping, Dougie takes some time
out to help his three sons, two of whom are actors Ryan
Thomas/Coronation Street and Adam Thomas. For More Information
